The American
Telemedicine Association Endorses New Malpractice Liability Insurance
Program
TelMed™ policies to provide clear and consistent multi-state malpractice
coverage, reduce personal liability exposure of telepractitioners.
Washington, DC,
November 16, 2007 — The American Telemedicine Association, the leading
resource and advocate promoting telemedicine and telehealth, has announced
its endorsement of a new professional liability insurance policy tailored to
meet the unique needs of individuals, institutions and companies engaged in
providing remote healthcare services. The liability product line, called
TelMed™, is being offered by the Campania Group, an innovative leader in the
development of insurance programs for trade associations representing the
healthcare industry. Campania’s TelMed™ products are available exclusively
to ATA members.
Obtaining professional liability insurance has become a major concern for
some healthcare providers. TelMed™ policies provide clear and consistent
multi-state malpractice coverage to reduce personal liability exposure for
telepractitioners. The highlight of the TelMed™ program is its professional
liability coverage, which specifically addresses key areas of potential risk
exposure unique to telemedical practice.
"We are truly pleased to have the opportunity to work with the ATA and
provide affordable insurance options to their members," stated Dennis
Santoli, President and CEO of The Campania Group. "Campania's staff is
comprised of former healthcare practitioners and attorneys, which enables us
to have a solid understanding of the issues surrounding telemedicine. Our
market research concluded that carriers are currently opting for one of two
approaches: Most carriers either refuse to renew physicians they believe are
practicing telemedicine, or they continue to insure these physicians in the
apparent hopes that, should a telemedicine claim arise, the policy language
is vague enough to get the carrier off the hook. We have absolutely no
problem supporting our clients by providing them the comprehensive liability
coverage they need in order to continue practicing telemedicine."
The American Telemedicine Association seeks to bring together diverse groups
from traditional medicine, academic medical centers, technology and
telecommunications companies, e-health medical societies, government, and
others to overcome barriers to the advancement of telemedicine through the
professional, ethical, and equitable improvement in health care delivery.
